Karin's Holiday Hats

Karin's Holiday Hats

Ever since we first opened the Samuel Morey Preschool, we've had a very special holiday tradition. Each year my mother-in-law Gerda Stecher would crochet a hat for every preschooler and their toddler and baby siblings. (She would also do the same for my wife's preschool classes, before Ingrid became an administrator and was no longer in the classroom.) The children have always loved getting these very unique and personal gifts. I have heard many stories over the years of children that don't want to take their preschool hats off - and even wear them in the bathtub or to bed at night.

When my mother-in-law passed away last year, we thought that this would finally be the end of this wonderful tradition in our classroom. And then something amazing happened. My sister-in-law Karin decided that she would follow in her mother's footsteps and make the holiday hats. We can't thank Karin enough (as we could never thank Gerda enough) for this very generous donation of time and effort on behalf of our preschool children and families.

Below are photos of the preschoolers with their new holiday hats on. You can see from these pictures what a special thing Karin has done in carrying on this heartfelt holiday tradition!
